The story below has been updated to correct the number of stores closed and their locations.

The parent company of several South Plains locations of Dairy Queen filed for bankruptcy on Monday and are closing 29 stores in Texas.

Dean Peters, director of communications with Dairy Queen, confirmed that 45 Dairy Queen locations owned by Vasari LLC in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, will remain open.

According to Everything Lubbock, Vasari LLC, the parent company, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy listing a debt between $10 million and $50 million. Since the company filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it will be allowed to organize their debts instead of being forced to liquidate.

Factors that caused the closings include the oil prices in the region and natural disasters such as Hurricane Harvey.
