SHILLINGTON, Pa. - A Berks County middle and high school are pairing up to collect shoes for those in need.

For the last two weeks, Governor Mifflin School District students have given shoes and given love.

"I always wanted to bring it to fruition. It kind of fizzled through and then this year, we decided, you know, this is a battle area. And I decided, you know, let's make this work," said Megan Mohl, health and phys. ed. teacher at Governor Mifflin Middle School.

Mohl is joined by fellow teachers and some other helping hands.

"It's kind of fun. Because I like to have everything almost like an assembly line," said Oliver Cipolla, a 7th grader at the middle school.

Students and faculty stayed after school for hours to box up all the shoes that organizers said could go anywhere across the world.

This is the first time the school is doing this and organizers said it's quite a good turnout.

"People were bringing in bags, people were bringing in their own boxes," said Stacey Bottiglieri, special education teacher at the school. "Everyone came together for it. It was fabulous."

Organizers said they paired up with the company Soles4Souls to tie the donation drive all together.

"The shoes that are donated can be any condition, any size. They could be athletic, they could be sandals, they could be anything," said Mohl.

"They will fix it, refurbish it, you know, put new shoelaces on it, put new treads on it. So, I was like, that's amazing," said Bottiglieri.

The group collected more than 500 shoes. Organizers say it's a number that might knock your socks off.

"This seems to be pretty darn successful. I think we're going to keep this growing every year," said the teachers.
