Daiso to open 3 stores in Utah in 2025. Here's where Japanese discount stores will open

On the heels of its first Colorado store opening, Japanese discount retailer Daiso plans to open a handful of locations in Utah this spring and summer.

Its first shop in the Beehive State will reportedly open in Midvale at some point this spring, bringing the state a retailer that is expanding in the Rockies and Southwest this year. Two more locations are slated to open later in the year in Utah, along with six more across neighbors Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. The company did not respond to a USA TODAY Network request for more details on its plans.

Many of the stores’ items will be priced under $2, giving shoppers a chance to fill up bags on the cheap.

Here’s what to expect from Daiso.

What is Daiso?

Daiso is similar to a dollar store, but offers Japanese-inspired snacks, home decor, kitchenware, beauty products, stationery and more.

The family-owned chain launched in Japan in 1977 and opened its first stores in the U.S. in 2005. It has more than 150 locations in the U.S. and more than 6,000 globally.

Where and when is Daiso opening stores in Utah?

Daiso has three store openings planned for Utah, although no specific dates have been released yet.

• Midvale: The Shops at Fort Union, opening spring 2025.
• Clinton: Park Plaza, opening summer 2025.
• Provo: Riverside Plaza, opening summer 2025.

What is Daiso's Standard Products line?

A small number of Daiso stores opening this year in the U.S. will carry its Standard Products line of home goods. The company has described the products as “simple yet elegant items for everyday life,” putting an emphasis on minimalist design and sustainability in higher quality goods.

At this point, Daiso has not announced if any of the Utah stores would also carry Standard Products.

Yes. Its job search page allows you to look for opportunities at specific stores around the country. You can find listings for managers and sales associates at locations that are already opened as well as those yet to open in Utah and around the country.

Which states have Daiso stores?

The chain lists locations in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New Mexico, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Washington on its website. A Colorado location also opened on March 15, although it was not listed yet in the directory.

In 2025 it also plans to open its first stores in Arkansas, Georgia. Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.
