A company that produces metallurgical coal and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January, is laying off more than 300 people in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Wilson Creek Energy/Corsa Coal filed a Worker Adjustment Retraining and Notification with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry informing the state it is laying off hundreds of employees.
Three hundred and thirty-two employees combined will be laid off on March 28 at 10 locations in Somerset County, and at one location in Garrett County, Maryland.

- 6375 Penn Ave., Jenner Township, near Somerset
- 619 Rhoads Road, Jenner Township, near Stoystown,
- 865 Durst Road, Grantsville, Maryland
The WARN Act is federal legislation that offers protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of a covered-business closing and covered-business mass layoff. There are some exceptions to the 60-day requirement. The WARN notice was dated March 13.
There’s a possibility that the sale of the company’s underground mines could be approved in bankruptcy court next week, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report.
