BOISE, ID —

IN BUSINESS:

  • Inc. is auctioning nearly 800 store locations nationwide
  • Six Colorado stores are among those up for grabs in the April 22 auction.
  • Bidding for store leases and properties closes on April 16
  • Stores will remain open until May, liquidating inventory and equipment

Locations for a nationwide chain of fabric and crafts stores will be up for auction on April 22 with nearly 800 storefronts up for grabs. Six of those are located throughout Colorado.

Joann Inc., a nationwide retailer based in Hudson, Ohio, announced in February that it was filing for Chapter 11 protection. In early March it announced the closure of 500 stores. At that time, financial service company GA Group and Joann term lenders acquired all the store’s assets.

GA Group announced the auctioning of the locations on March 13. According to GA Group, the properties are located in 49 states, with some as freestanding stores, power centers, strip malls and urban retail corridors. Sizes range from 7,500 square feet to 52,000 square feet. The deadline to bid on the store leases and properties is April 16.

“This diverse portfolio offers strong real estate fundamentals, prime high-traffic locations, and turnkey spaces ready for immediate occupancy,” said Michael Jerbich of GA Group. “This auction offers business owners and investors a prime opportunity to expand their footprint and strengthen their local presence.”

The stores up for auction include:

  • Aurora – 13861 E. Exposition Ave.
  • Aurora – 7360 S. Gartrell Road
  • Boulder – 2440 Arapahoe Ave.
  • Centennial – 9090 E. Phillips Place
  • Loveland – 1601 Fall River Drive
  • Pueblo – 3449 Dillon Drive

Many of the stores will stay open until May, liquidating inventory, furniture and fixtures and equipment. According to GA Group, the intellectual property of Joann Inc. will also be sold as part of the auctioning process.

“The auction of Joann’s store leases presents a unique chance to transform well-located retail spaces into thriving businesses,” said Emilio Amendola, co-president of A&G. “From specialty retail and fitness centers to health care clinics and entertainment venues, these properties offer limitless potential. For small business owners and startups, this is an opportunity to lock in prime locations at competitive rates — helping them grow, innovate and revitalize local economies.”

The well-known fabric retailer had filed for in March of 2024 after coming through the challenges of the pandemic, but it continued to face operational challenges.

“Joann leadership, our board, advisors and legal partners made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business,” Joann said in a statement posted on its website. “We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders.”
