HANOVER, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia State Police says a Connecticut man died in a crash on Interstate 95 over the weekend.

On Sunday, shortly after 9 a.m., troopers were called to a reported crash on I-95 northbound near Lewistown Road.

“Preliminary findings indicate that a 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van veered off the right side of the highway, struck several trees, and caught fire,” Virginia State Police said.

The driver, 53-year-old Tiffany Jerome Benincasa of Greenwich, Connecticut, was found outside the vehicle with minor injuries.

VSP says Tiffany Benincasa’s husband, 60-year-old James Benincasa, was a passenger inside the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
