Lunch & Learn At Bermuda College On March 27
BEST [Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce] and Bermuda College will host a free Lunch & Learn ‘Leveraging Service to Jumpstart Your Career’ on Thursday [March 27] featuring Zayne Sinclair.
A spokesperson said, “The community is invited to attend ‘Leveraging Service to Jumpstart Your Career’ on Thursday, March 27th at Bermuda College from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, presented by Zayne Sinclair.
“Zayne, an entrepreneur and community advocate, is dedicated to sustainability and social impact. He spent four years helping clients create and manage edible landscapes. That chapter propelled him into his current work, developing a new business focused on sustainability, community, and economic empowerment. With nearly 300 registered charities in Bermuda, Zayne challenges you to consider Volunteering more freely giving your time or expertise, not just as part of Community Service for school requirements, but as a tool for building skills, expanding your network, and unlocking career opportunities.”
In this interactive Eco Lunch & Learn, Mr. Sinclair says “we’ll explore how to strategically leverage volunteer work to gain hands-on experience, develop leadership skills, and position yourself for future success in rapidly changing times.”
Amy Harvey, the Earth and Environmental Science Senior Lecturer at the Bermuda College explained, “We are looking forward to hearing from Zayne Sinclair, a young and passionate outside-of-the-box thinker. As part of my environmental science courses at Bermuda College students must engage in community participation throughout the semester as part of their grade. This has several goals. One to build both environmental and social stewardship. Secondly, to learn about new things. Lastly, to engage with community partners that they may not have met before and build new relationships. I have found that students have been given many opportunities over the years from these interactions ranging from internships to jobs that can lead to career changes. This talk should be inspiring for all ages as Zayne also embraces intergenerational learning.”
Jennifer Flood, BEST Executive Officer added, “Volunteering, or helping others willingly without payment, has been an integral part of human societies. The idea of giving of oneself for the benefit of others has its origins in early African associational life. In Bermuda, charities, and other organisations, rely heavily on volunteers who contribute to vital projects, which in turn contribute to social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Should these organisations ‘close shop’ the cost to Society and Government would be enormous. But volunteering is not necessarily a one-way street. When you volunteer, you make a connection with the community. Through your actions and involvement, you are benefitting others as well as yourself. We look forward to Zayne developing this particular theme in his presentation.”
