The No. 1 ranked women’s basketball recruit in the country is coming to Norman.

Class of 2025 point guard Aaliyah Chavez went on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Tuesday afternoon, selecting Oklahoma over LSU, Texas, South Carolina, Texas Tech and UCLA. The Lubbock native is the No. 1 ranked recruit in ESPNW’s rankings.

Chavez gives the Sooners’ 2025 class three recruits rated as a four-star or higher by ESPN. She was the Gatorade National Player of the Year and McDonald’s All-American.

“I’m excited to embrace the challenge ahead to learn more about the game and contribute in any way to the team’s success,” Chavez said during her announcement. “I’m not just joining a program, I’m joining a family and I’m ready to give my all to make this my home and bring a national championship to the city of Norman.”

This past weekend Chavez was in Norman for Oklahoma’s NCAA Tournament game against Florida Gulf Coast. The Sooners advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013 on Monday with a 96-62 win over Iowa.

Chavez is expected to join an experienced cast that will be back next season in Raegan Beers, Payton Verhulst and Sahara Williams, among others.
