GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - More than one hundred Seabees arrived at the base in Gulfport with a line of loved ones outside the Seabee Heritage Center, returning home from a nearly seven-month deployment in Guam.

For Elise Dhamodharan, it was difficult to get used to the absence of her brother, Ethan. She came all the way from Massachusetts to see his return.

“It was hard not having him so close by. We’ve always been a very close family, so it’s been challenging, but we are so proud and it’s been an amazing experience for him,” Dhamodharan said.

Ethan’s girlfriend was also among the crowd to welcome her Seabee home.

“I’m very excited to have him home and just give him a hug. I usually see him once a month, but seven months is a long time without a visit,” Ethan’s girlfriend said.

They weren’t the only ones stoked to be reunited with their partner. For Seabee Alexander Brown, this marked his seventh deployment.

“It’s like having a home to come back to versus just coming home,” he said.

“It’s exciting. This is the first one I’ve had to come home to, and I have somebody here waiting for me,” Brown said.
