BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M baseball team returned to the win column Tuesday night with a 7-2 victory over Houston Christian in midweek action at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Clayton Freshcorn (2-2) earned the win in relief after tossing three no-hit frames to go along with three strikeouts. Freshman Caden McCoy closed out the contest with three scoreless innings en route to his first career save. The rookie also registered a season-best four punchouts and did not yield a hit.
Ben Royo led the offensive attack for the Aggies (12-12) as the junior went 2-for-2 at the dish with a homer and a walk. Bear Harrison joined Royo as the only other Maroon & White batter with a multi-hit game, finishing the night 2-for-4. Kaeden Kent and Hayden Schott also contributed with a pair of RBI each in the win.
Following a scoreless first from Rudis, the Maroon & White opened the scoring in the bottom half with a two-out, two-run single from Schott.
After the Huskies (14-8) responded with two runs in the second to even the score, Kent reclaimed the lead for the Aggies with an RBI groundout in the bottom half. Later in the frame Sawyer Farr scored on a wild pitch to up the advantage to 4-2.
Texas A&M extended its lead to 6-2 in the third following an RBI infield single from Matt Bergevin and an RBI fielder’s choice from Kent.
Royo added one last run for the Aggies in the eighth with a solo shot that traveled 415 feet and left the bat at 105 mph. The homer marked the junior’s first in the Maroon & White.
