2025 MLB season national predictions: Texas Rangers back on World Series hunt?

A healthy roster could mean a return of the winning ways from 2023′s title team.

Another baseball season is upon us, and the Texas Rangers are back on the path to the postseason.

An offseason removed from a disappointing 2024 campaign, the Rangers hope to bring back the winning ways of the 2023 World Series champions as another year begins.

Here’s a look at how some national outlets are predicting the Rangers will fare in 2025:

MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince

Mixed in with a prediction that the entire playoff field in the American League will feature teams that missed the playoffs in 2024, was a declaration that the Rangers will return to the top spot in the AL West.

Castrovince wrote: “The Astros aren’t going gently into that good night but certainly look a heck of a lot different today than they did a year ago. The Mariners finished just 3.5 games back of them last year, the Rangers have the potential to bounce back from their World Series hangover year, and the A’s and Angels were among the most active clubs of the offseason. ...

“Here’s how I’ll put it down for predictive posterity: The Red Sox, Twins and Rangers win their divisions, while the Mariners, Rays and A’s claim the Wild Cards.”

However, he picked the Philadelphia Phillies to win the World Series.

The Athletic

The Athletic asked 33 writers to predict award winners and World Series champions — and the Rangers fared extremely well among the voters.

Aside from the Dodgers, who were selected by 16 writers to win the NL pennant, Texas was selected by 11 writers to win the AL pennant, more than any other team to win either league not wearing blue in Los Angeles.

However, only one of those writers (Matt Gelb, Phillies beat writer) doubled down on the Rangers turning another AL pennant into their second WS title in three years, while 14 writers picked the Dodgers to go back-to-back.

Other highlights include some love for Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter in the AL Rookie of the Year race, as well as Corey Seager in MVP voting.

Baseball America

BA asked nine staff writers to give their World Series predictions for the 2025 season, and the Rangers showed up three times:

- Mark Chiarelli chose the Phillies over the Rangers in six games.

- Matt Eddy (though not so confidently) picked the Rangers over the Braves.

- Dylan White tabbed the Dodgers over the Rangers in five games.

Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer

Rhymer also had the Rangers making the postseason, as the AL’s top wild-card team as the Mariners won the West.

He predicted the Rangers would win a playoff rematch with the Baltimore Orioles in the AL Wild-Card Round (in three games), before being swept by the Boston Red Sox in the Division Series.

“Though Corey Seager would be the best hitter on either side, Boston’s offense potentially goes deeper than Texas’. The front four alone — Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers, Alex Bregman, Triston Casas — is as dangerous as they come,” Rymer said.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan

Yahoo! Sports

The poll of Yahoo Sports’ MLB experts was a mixed bag from great success to abject failure for the Rangers.

One writer, Jake Mintz, not only had the Rangers winning the West, but the American League pennant — though losing to the Atlanta Braves in the World Series. Russell Dorsey also had Texas winning the division.

Jordan Shusterman, Jack Baer and Jason Owens, meanwhile, all had the Rangers missing the postseason completely.

Shusterman did earn some points back with Rangers fans predicting Jacob deGrom would win the AL Cy Young Award. Baer and Owens picked deGrom for AL Comeback Player of the Year. And Mintz tabbed Kumar Rocker for AL Rookie of the Year.

SNY staff

The Rangers popped up in multiple places of 14 contributors polled by SNY for its 2025 season predictions.

Of the 14 ballots, the Rangers were selected to:

- Be a wild-card team one time.

- Win the AL West nine times.

- Win the American League pennant twice.

- Win the World Series zero times (losing to the Dodgers both times).

- Miss the playoffs four times.
