ST. PAUL, Minn. (KTTC) – Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has issued a consumer alert following the recent bankruptcy filing of 23andMe, a genetic-testing company which collects and analyzes information on a person’s genetic code.

The attorney general’s office has been monitoring 23andMe as part of an investigation into a data breach at the company in 2023.

The company’s recent bankruptcy filing has raised uncertainties about the future of consumers’ genetic data. Ellison said Minnesotans may wish to protect their own data by requesting the deletion of their account.
