Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Flood recovery presents diverse challenges, with many individuals struggling with complex paperwork involving taxes, insurance, and financial losses. To address these concerns, residents of Clay County were offered guidance at a Rural Action Partnership Event on Wednesday in Spencer.

David Brown is a Behavior Health State Specialist:

Resources to clarify insurance policies, connect them with disaster case advocates, facilitate appropriate tax filing, and initiate financial recovery planning are available statewide.

Danielle Day is a Health and Human Sciences Educator and says that Iowa Concern number will connect anyone facing challenging times to the resources needed.  That number is 1-800-447-1985. The VITA Program is also available to help with tax preparation in certain cases, and you can find out more at the ISU Extension and Outreach website.

While the event occurred in Clay County, these resources are accessible statewide.

The Iowa Concern hotline was highlighted as a valuable tool for those unsure of where to begin with financial or legal matters, acting as a connector to necessary support.

The event encompassed various subjects, including financial advice and tax assistance, with a strong focus on mental health support.

It was emphasized that individuals may experience heightened anxiety and stress as new storms approach, which is a normal reaction to past trauma. Recognizing personal signs and symptoms indicating a need for help was deemed crucial.
