Teen driver ejected, killed in southeast Iowa rollover crash

NEAR KALONA, Iowa — A teen driver is dead as the result of a rollover wreck in southeast Iowa.

That fatal one-car crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday on Highway 1, approximately four miles south of Kalona.

The Iowa State Patrol identifies the victim as Alaina McNurlen, 18, of Keota, Iowa.

State troopers said McNurlen crossed the center line of Highway 1 into the oncoming lane of traffic.

She then swerved back into her lane before overcorrecting and losing control of her car.

The vehicle then crossed over the opposite lane, entered a ditch and rolled.

McNurlen was ejected from the car and was killed.

Investigators say the teen was not wearing a seat belt.
