SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - We are turning off the weekend rain machine and cranking up the heat this week. A new weather pattern is starting to establish itself this week with a building Bermuda High and flatter west to east jet stream flow to the north. This pattern will keep us in a warm and humid low level southerly wind flow all week. Mid-week temperatures will be near or above record breaking, and closer to what you might expect at the end of May.

Although the humidity will be high this week, the rain chances will be small. The most likely location of rain today would be very light rain in extreme eastern sections of Hardee or Desoto. Rain along our coastal or near inland locations is unlikely. The best chance for showers in the state would be along the I-10 corridor or the east coast.

Inland temperatures could approach 90 degrees today. Coastal communities will be held to the low to mid 80s, with feels like temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.

By Wednesday the air temperatures will climb into the upper 80s. As the surface winds continue out of the south the humidity will remain high. The afternoons will begin to feel oppressive. The heat index could approach the mid 90s. It’s been a moment since we have had that level of “feels-like” heat. If spending time outside in the daytime heat this week, keep a water bottle handy and stay hydrated. If working outside, try to take frequent rest breaks.

Long term temperature forecast keep us warmer than average.
