Sierra, the off-price outdoor retailer, is set to open a new store in Chesterfield Township this week.
The company will open the doors to its eighth Michigan location on Saturday in the Waterside Marketplace shopping center near Gratiot Avenue and 23 Mile Road. As part of the TJ Maxx family of brands, Sierra offers top brands at lower prices than department and specialty stores, according to the company. The new store will be Sierra’s third in metro Detroit.
“Michigan is quite familiar with the Sierra experience, and we are thrilled to be opening our third store location in the Detroit area,” said Amanda Johnson, assistant vice president and marketing director for Sierra, in a news release.
A grand opening celebration at 8 a.m. will mark the milestone with music from a local DJ, Sierra branded giveaways and more.
Also to celebrate its arrival in Chesterfield Township, Sierra has made a $10,000 donation to Forgotten Harvest, an Oak Park-based nonprofit organization that battles food insecurity by redistributing surplus food.
“The donation will support Forgotten Harvest’s mission to rescue surplus food and deliver it to people in need, alleviating hunger and reducing food waste in the Detroit metropolitan area,” the retailer said.
The 19,000-square-foot store will offer a wide selection of active and outside apparel, footwear and gear. The extensive product range from leading brands includes light layers, bike helmets and accessories, hiking and camping gear, fishing rods and more.
“With the new store in Chesterfield, we are pleased to bring even more shoppers in the community everything they need to get active this spring,” Johnson said. “At Sierra, our goal is to provide shoppers with all the apparel, footwear and gear they need to enjoy the day-to-day activities that make them happiest.”
Founded in 1986 and known as Sierra Trading Post until 2018, the Massachusetts-based retailer is part of The TJX Companies Inc. and has 120 stores nationwide. In Michigan, Sierra also has stores in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Grandville, Holland, Lansing, Norton Shores and Novi.
In Chesterfield Township, Sierra takes over the space previously occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed all of its remaining stores in 2023.
The new Sierra store is located at 50551 Waterside Drive in Chesterfield Township. Regular store hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 586-948-1834 or visit sierra.com.
