The Fiji Labour Party and Unity Fiji have signed an agreement to work together in the coming local government elections.
FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry and Unity Fiji Leader Savenaca Narube signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Suva.
“The local government elections are important to fully restore accountability and democracy in the governance of our cities and towns,” said Mr Chaudhry.
“We are pleased that the Government has finally decided to make good its election promise to hold municipal elections.”
Unity Fiji Leader Savenaca Narube said “it makes perfect sense” to work with FLP and pool resources to contest these local government elections.”
“The MOU enables selection of the best candidates, a joint campaign with a common platform and seat sharing where feasible,” he said.
FLP and Unity Fiji will coordinate the selection of candidates to maximise chances of success. campaign jointly under a coordinated arrangement with common areas of our manifestos, issue joint media statements where appropriate and make joint submissions to the Fiji Elections Office and to the Government on proposed changes to electoral legislation.
The MOU allows other political parties to join the partnership.
