Bruno Fernandes will regret his time at Man United - he's wasted his best years

Bruno Fernandes has wasted his best years playing for Manchester United, claims former Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor.

The 30-year-old captain has been one of the stand out performers in a team that has struggled for the vast majority of the season. He has often come up with some crucial moments in the game and his displays have caught the eye of Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Fernandes has been scouted by Carlo Ancelotti's representatives at 'virtually every single Man United home and away game' this season, the Daily Star reported. It is added that Los Blancos believe Fernandes could help take them to the next level.

United secured Fernandes' services for reported £67million in January 2020 and would make a sizeable profit if he was to be sold for £90m as the report suggests. Having now been at the club for five years, Agbonlahor has suggested Fernandes will regret spending some of that time at Old Trafford.

"He’s 31 in September. And if he retired next season and didn’t win anything this season, he could retire or leave Manchester United with one FA Cup and one Carabao Cup," the former Villa striker said on talkSPORT.

"I think he's actually wasted his best years at Manchester United, even if they win the Europa League."

The Reds captain has won just two trophies during his time at the club - the League Cup and the FA Cup. Should he depart in the summer for £90m, United would receive a sizeable profit on the midfielder.

Ruben Amorim, meanwhile, has made his stance over Fernandes clear. "No. It's not going to happen," he said when asked about the links to Real. That is the challenge. I want Bruno here. We want to win the Premier League again, so we want the best players with us. He's still so young because he plays 55 games every season.

"We are in control of the situation. I feel that he's really happy here. He understands what we want to do. He's one more supporter of Manchester United, he really feels it."
