A man in Taiwan has sparked public outrage after he stole the urn of his ex-girlfriend’s father in a bid to coerce her into reconciling with him, threatening that she would “never see her father again.”

The 48-year-old woman, surnamed Tang, had been in a 15-year relationship with the 57-year-old Lv, the owner of a chicken farm in the Xinbei district of New Taipei City with significant business debts who relied on his family for financial support.

Realising there was no future in the relationship, Tang broke up with him in 2023 and intentionally cut off all contact.

Unable to accept the break-up, Lv became vengeful and over the next two years, issued multiple threats in an attempt to coerce Tang into reconciling with him.

Last May, he began scouting the Wuzhi Mountain Military Cemetery in New Taipei’s Xizhi District, and planned to steal the urn containing Tang’s father’s ashes as a way to vent his emotions and force a reconciliation.

Last August, he successfully stole the urn, and in December, Lv went to Tang’s home and posted her father’s portrait outside as a threat. At this point she was unaware that the urn had been stolen and did not respond.
