‘Romeo and Juliet’ production takes stage to close out 60th Minnesota Ballet season
DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Minnesota Ballet is closing its 60th season by bringing Shakespeare’s classic story of star-crossed lovers to the Depot Theatre.
The artistic executive director for the ballet, Karl von Rabenau, said that it’s been great preparing for “Romeo and Juliet” the past five weeks and that he’s excited for the audience to see what they’ve been creating.
“It’s been a lot of work,” he said. “But getting to see these amazing artists in the studio every day, it’s just inspiring, it keeps you pushing, helps with new ideas on how to approach different scenes.”
He said that everyone probably reads “Romeo and Juliet” at some point in their life, so they wanted to make the ballet accessible for more people to see.
To help, Minnesota Ballet is offering $15 tickets to high school and college students on the day of the performance.
Brooke Bero, a company dancer, said that it’s fun for students to see a story they’ve read be brought to the stage.
“I think if you’re in high school or college, you probably had to read ”Romeo and Juliet" in school,” she said. “I think it’s pretty traditional for all of us. It’s fun to see that work that you read now on the stage.”
Minnesota Ballet’s “Romeo and Juliet” opens on Thursday, April 10 and runs until Sunday, April 13.
