IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - A Muscatine man was arrested early Friday morning after police say he was drunk when he drove a vehicle onto the sidewalk in front of the building that houses City Hall and the Iowa City Police Department early Friday morning.

In a criminal complaint, police said 23-year-old Brett Mullin pulled a vehicle up onto the sidewalk at 410 E Washington Street at around 2:15 a.m.

According to police, Mullin had bloodshot, watery eyes, impaired speech and balance and smelled of alcohol. He also admitted to drinking throughout the night and still had a bar wristband and stamp on.

The complaint says Mullin told police he was “coming to the police department to help get a girl out of custody.”

Police said Mullins admitted that he should have waited to drive his vehicle.

Mullin is charged with Operating While Under the Influence.
