Arsenal 'eyeing Real Madrid transfer repeat' for Liverpool star's £40m arch-enemy

Arsenal are set for huge summer in the transfer market and Real Madrid prospect Arda Guler has been linked with a potential £40million move from the Bernabeu to the Emirates

Arsenal are reportedly interested in Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler, who has struggled for game time at the Bernabeu this season. The 20-year-old has made just 11 starts for Madrid across all competitions, with a number of big name stars ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, Guler has impressed in his limited opportunities and is attracting interest from a number of clubs who are ready to offer him more game time. According to the Sun, Arsenal are among those considering a move for Guler.

The report states that Guler is valued at around £40million by Madrid and that there are some at the club who believe he may need to follow leave the club in order to fulfil his potential, much like current Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard did when he left the Bernabeu in 2021.

Guler recently made waves after he was involved in a spat with Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai following a UEFA Nations League clash between Turkey and Hungary.

Guler's Turkey beat Hungary 6-1 on aggregate in their play-off tie and Szoboszlai was not happy after being shushed during the second leg.

In response to an image of Guler's gesture which was posted on Instagram by a news outlet, Szoboszlai wrote "1088" which was the exact number of minutes the midfielder had played for Madrid at the time.

Guler, though, fired back on his Instagram story as he wrote: "This guy is a joke. Isn't 6 goals enough to shut you up?" Guler's statement was also followed by a shushing face emoji.

Despite speculation over his future at Madrid, Guler has insisted he is happy to stay and fight for more opportunities. "Madrid gave me a plan and I still believe in it," he said last month.

"I'm sure I'll succeed at Real Madrid, I've even bought a house in Madrid. I work very hard and I'm always ready to play. I love Real Madrid fans, and their support means a lot to me.

"I'm very grateful. I came to Real Madrid to play and be an important part of this team. And I won't stop fighting until I achieve that."

However, Guler's international captain Hakan Calhanoglou has urged the youngster to join him in Italy at Inter Milan. "Arda is a very important player; he's like a little brother whom I love very much," Calhanoglu said.

"I would like him to come and play with us—at Inter—although I don't know if this is true. I don't know what his situation is at Real Madrid, so I don't want to get too involved in this situation because in the end, he knows more, although of course, I want and believe he deserves to play more minutes."
