IT Governance to host GDPR breakfast briefing at Cambridge Network

ELY, UNITED KINGDOM, February 16, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- IT Governance, the leading provider of IT governance, risk management and compliance solutions for the private and public sectors, is delighted to be hosting an EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) breakfast briefing event at Cambridge Network on 22 March 2018.

With just over three months until the GDPR compliance deadline, companies need to create a shift in organisational culture to better support business objectives and tackle bad security habits. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport’s Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2018 found that only 38% of businesses and 44% of charities have heard of the GDPR. This is worrying considering the rapidly approaching compliance deadline, consequences of non-compliance, ever-evolving cyber threats and rising numbers of data breaches.

To support Cambridge-based organisations in initiating their GDPR compliance projects and thus avoiding penalties that could significantly damage both revenue and reputation, IT Governance will be running a breakfast briefing to discuss the impact of the Regulation and provide a practical step-by-step approach to achieving compliance.

Alan Calder, the founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, said: “We are happy to collaborate with Cambridge Network on this unique event and to be able to raise awareness of the changes that the GDPR will bring to Cambridge businesses across the board.

“The Regulation expands the rights of individuals over how their personal information is collected and processed. It also places new obligations on organisations to be more accountable for data protection. Understanding the consequences of non-compliance in this time of increased data protection laws and regulations is crucial to all aspects of business continuity and information security management.”

The event is designed to provide an easy-to-understand overview of the cyber security landscape and the way it will be shaped by the GDPR, along with a how-to for a smooth transition to compliance. It will consist of a comprehensive talk followed by questions from the attendees and a networking session in a relaxed atmosphere.

Cambridge Network members benefit from a reduced registration fee, but the event is open to all Cambridgeshire-based businesses looking to improve their cyber security and data protection strategies. Sign up here if you'd like to attend.
