LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, June 1, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ -- The Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) Annual Celebrating Survivors Gala held on May 17th, 2023, at the Taglyan Complex has raised $371,000 to aid survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Hosted by actress Angelique Bates, who is a survivor herself, the LACLJ Gala celebrates the efforts of those working to promote the safety and stability of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in low-income communities. Funds raised provide low-income survivors with access to free legal representation and advocacy so they can achieve safety, justice, and stability.

“Seeing a community of volunteers, donors, legal minds and professionals come together in support of these victims showcases how vital the work LACLJ is for our society,” said LACLJ Executive Director Carmen McDonald. “Bringing justice for victims of assault, and providing closure and protection for the abused is something that must always be valued at the highest levels. We thank our supporters for never forgetting this.”

Gala honorees include former CA State Assemblymember the Honorable Richard Bloom, who received the Justice Award, law firm Latham & Watkins LLP, with the Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award, and Stephen Kelly, Cypress LLP, with the Pro Bono Champion Award. The gala is made possible by donors and sponsors including Leader of Justice sponsor Hueston Hennigan, LLP.

About The Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice
The mission of the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) is to secure justice for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and empower them to create their own futures. Since 1973, LACLJ has provided legal services to communities that face multiple barriers to accessing justice.
About 80% of family law cases involve at least one self-represented person, largely because they cannot afford an attorney. In LA County, this statistic is representative of over 16,000 survivors! Without access to legal representation, survivors can lose restraining order protection, custody of their children, and their visitation rights as a parent.

LACLJ provides survivors with an expert attorney and a dedicated advocate in and outside of the courtroom. We not only help to address survivors’ legal battles but also connect families to the resources they need to build self-sufficiency and create more hopeful futures.
